2020 Census: Everyone Counts

April 1, 2020 is National Census Day. A complete count in Pennsylvania is critical. We want to make sure our communities' voices are heard in government, and that we get our fair share of resources and federal funding.

Currently, data collected in the last census are used to decide how $675 billion in federal public funding is spent every year. Pennsylvania's communities get $26.8 billion annually from just our 16 largest federally funded programs. That's about $2,000 per Pennsylvanian each year. These numbers may change depending on our 2020 U.S. Census count and could impact programs like Medicare, CHIP, SNAP, school breakfasts and lunches, Head Start, TANF, funding for our transportation infrastructure, housing, and more.

Join the effort to promote the 2020 Census so we can achieve a complete count for Pennsylvania. There are many ways you can become involved: support your local Complete Count Committee; mention the 2020 Census in your mailings and newsletters; add information on your bills, invoices, and receipts; hang posters and distribute flyers; and talk to your partners, employees, customers, and stakeholders.

For more information and resources related to the 2020 U.S. Census, please visit Text PACOUNTS to 898211 to receive text message updates about the 2020 U.S. Census in either English or Spanish. Standard data rates may apply.

In addition to the U.S. Census Bureau's outreach materials, download and use Pennsylvania-specific materials in your county's 2020 Census promotions.

The Office of Developmental Programs Bureau of Supports for Autism and Special Populations (ODP: BSASP), and the Autism Services, Education, Resources and Training Collaborative (ASERT) are conducting a survey to learn more about training needs among providers across all systems that support individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and their families.

The data collected from this survey will be used by ODP to enhance training that reflect the needs of provider and professional organizations throughout the state.

This survey is anonymous, and any contact information provided will be kept separately from your survey responses. Visit here to complete the survey by February 7.

DEA Publication Available

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has published 2019 National Drug Threat Assessment, which outlines the threats posed to the United States by domestic and international drug trafficking and the abuse of illicit drugs.

The publication provides a yearly assessment of the many drug abuse and drug trafficking challenges local communities face. Highlights in the report include usage and trafficking trends for drugs such as prescription drugs, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and the hundreds of synthetic drugs. New to this year's assessment is an expanded section on gangs - including street gangs, prison gangs, and outlaw motorcycle gangs - which now details gang activity geographically by DEA field division.

The assessment factors in data from many sources, including drug seizures, drug purity, laboratory analyses, information on the involvement of organized criminal groups, and survey data provided to DEA by state and local law enforcement agencies across the country.
